What does BNT stand for?
BNT stands for Belleville New Tech, a school within a school at Belleville High School.
Do BNT classes teach the same content standards as BHS?
Yes. All projects cover the Michigan Merit Curriculum.
What “new tech” are you using?
The “New Tech” name refers to new techniques in teaching and organizing our program. We approach learning through a different lens, giving students chances to work in teams, solve problems, and learn through real projects.
How are the BNT classes different?
BNT classes are blended block classes that combine two subjects into one core class, taught by two teachers (for example, English + Science or Social Studies + English). Each block class is structured around Project Based Learning.
What does Project Based Learning mean?
Project Based Learning presents students with a big, real-world question. Over several weeks, students work in groups to research and answer that question, then create a final product such as a presentation. Along the way, they practice collaboration and task management.
I’ve always disliked group work. How does BNT handle students who don’t do their part?
At the start of each project, groups write a contract with expectations and consequences. If a student doesn’t meet the contract, the group can start a mediation process with the teacher. In serious cases, a student can be removed from the group and must complete the project on their own.
Can my student still take band, electives, AP, or CTE classes?
Yes. Students take their core classes (Social Studies, Math, English, Science) in BNT and traditional classes for the rest of the day. Electives like band, AP, CTE at William D. Ford, dual enrollment, and more can all be scheduled.
How does a student take honors classes in BNT?
Students who want honors credit tell the teacher at the start of the semester. Honors students complete extra project requirements that push them deeper into the material. When finished, the honors credit appears on the official transcript.
Are grades different in BNT?
Yes! Instead of the usual 80% tests and 20% classwork, BNT grades students using school-wide learning outcomes: Content Knowledge, Written and Oral Communication, Collaboration, and Agency. This means classwork, homework, projects, essays, and quizzes all count, giving a fuller picture of what students know and can do.
What is Echo, and how is it different from Google Classroom?
Echo is BNT’s learning management system. Students get and turn in work through Echo, and all project materials are stored there so groups can access everything whether they are at school or at home.
